MelaPower 9x is Melaleuca's laundry detergent, and Melaleuca's guide says it needs only 2 teaspoons to clean a full load. It belongs to the EcoSense laundry line: six products built around enzymes instead of chlorine bleach, each described below from Melaleuca's own product pages.

What's in Melaleuca's laundry line?

The line has six EcoSense products designed to work together: a detergent, a fabric softener, a stain remover, a color-safe whitener, a color booster and a scent booster.

How each product works in your wash

Two ingredient choices shape the whole line. The first is enzymes, proteins that break down specific kinds of stains. MelaPower uses a proprietary blend of three natural enzymes. PreSpot uses six, aimed at the three main stain types: protein, starch and grease.

The second is the whitener. Instead of chlorine bleach, MelaBrite Plus Oxi contains sodium percarbonate, which releases hydrogen peroxide. Melaleuca says that breaks down colorful stains and removes odors, and that enzymes then handle any leftover stain particles.

Melaleuca describes MelaPower's formula as super-concentrated, biodegradable and effective in cold water. MelaSoft uses biodegradable, plant-derived softening agents. MelaBoost uses essential oils and fragrances that Melaleuca says meet its Safe Scent standard.

How does the cost per load compare?

Cost per load is the bottle price divided by the number of loads it treats. MelaPower runs 29 cents a load at the regular price and 20 cents a load at the member price. Tide comes in at 24 cents a load and Seventh Generation at 22 cents.

That means members pay a little less: 4 cents a load less than Tide and 2 cents less than Seventh Generation. At the regular price, MelaPower costs more per load than either. Prices change, so confirm what you would actually pay before you decide.

On ingredients, Melaleuca says MelaPower leaves out chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, phthalates and parabens.

Loads per bottle depend on the dose each brand specifies, so use the same dose basis for every brand when you check the numbers against your own prices:

  1. Note each bottle's price and the number of loads printed on the label.
  2. Divide price by loads.
  3. Compare the ingredient list as printed on each label.
  4. Note how you buy: membership order, retail shelf or online subscription.

For more context, the YouTube reviewer Jeeves NY has a detergent roundup covering mainstream and eco-minded brands. Our full brand comparisons set the brands side by side, and two common matchups have their own pages: Melaleuca vs Tide and Melaleuca vs Seventh Generation. Tide, Seventh Generation and Melaleuca each take a different approach, so focus on the label details that matter most to your family.

How do you buy Melaleuca laundry products?

Melaleuca sells direct to customers. According to Melaleuca, the company does not advertise and relies on customer referrals to grow, and it reports a 96% monthly reorder rate among customers.

Per the same source, Melaleuca was founded in 1985 with eight products based on tea tree oil and now lists more than 400 products. The household cleaning products guide covers the rest of the cleaning shelf.

Your questions about Melaleuca laundry

Does MelaPower work in cold water?
According to Melaleuca, yes. Its product guide describes MelaPower 9x as effective in cold water. If you wash mostly in cold, try one bottle on your usual loads before you switch completely.

How is MelaPower's cost per load worked out?
Divide the price you pay for a bottle by the number of loads Melaleuca states for it, at its dose of 2 teaspoons per full load. Do the same for any other detergent, using its own labeled dose. Prices differ depending on how you buy (membership order, retail shelf or subscription), so use the price you would actually pay. The figures above (29 cents regular, 20 cents member) are a good starting point, but prices change, so check melaleuca.com for current pricing.

Which Melaleuca laundry products would work for your family?

If you like one matched set (detergent, stain remover, whitener, softener) from a single maker, the six-product line is convenient, and MelaBoost adds scent if your family likes it. If you would rather skip chlorine and use enzyme-based formulas, the label wording above tells you what you are getting. If you only need a detergent, price MelaPower on its own. The 2-teaspoon dose makes the per-load math easy.

The most reliable cost test is your own math: current price, labeled loads and the same dose basis across brands. For that math done side by side, with every source linked, read the full comparison.
